The String house

The String House - MCM Architectural Gem in Hollywood, Florida.

My friend, who is an avid MCM enthusiast, is the owner of this landmark property. Enjoy this quick tour and the architectural history.

Charles (Chuck) Reed, Jr is a respected, visionary architect in Southern Florida whose portfolio includes several commissioned residential and hospitality properties throughout the Hollywood and Miami area.
His architectural education began at the University of Miami through the WWII GI Bill. He began as a carpenter and draftsman under the mentorship of architect Igor Polevitzky, who is attributed as a founding father of Southern Florida Modernism. Chuck personally contributed to much of the detailing work in Polevitzky’s personal home.

The mid-1950’s was the beginning of his private practice. His signature style of exterior visual privacy mixed with expansive, open-air interiors facing tropical gardens, built traction. His work was ahead of its time in green building techniques. His common materials include concrete blocks, wood planks with clean detailing and screened courtyards to create cross-ventilation air flows within his homes.

His career work of Mid Century Modern and Subtropical Modern architecture is celebrated through preservation status. Owners of his homes consider themselves stewards of his work and protect the elegance of his vision.
