The pendulum from minimalism to maximalism is underway which is one reason why I believe that Art Deco will see a broader resurgence. Additionally, our society is in some respects repeating behaviors from the ‘30’s which is one of that decades that Art Deco was the style du jour.

Art Deco is short for Arts Décoratifs and is an offshoot of Modernism heralded from post WWI France through the 1940’s. It is a design period full of high-fashion and glamour dripped in decadence through bold geometric patterns, colors, exotic materials and ornamental details especially in commercial architecture.

Some of the country’s premiere Art Deco buildings include the Chrysler Building in New York, the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles and The Fisher Building in Detroit. Detroit is one of America’s foremost authorities on Art Deco architecture.
